Now that we know that the second stage of mating is the acquaintance stage, let's talk about what that might look like. Basically, it’s exactly as it implies, we are getting acquainted with the person. Or in another term, we are getting to know them.

 

I think the that fact that we are getting to know the person speaks for itself. And it alludes to the fact that we really don't know the person, at least not in depth. The acquaintance stage assists us with this.

 

So, how do we actually get acquainted? Well, that's an individual experience, but it usually begins with spending time in conversation and fellowship. But remember, that true fellowship should only be within our Christian fellowship. "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14, KJV)

 

During the acquaintance stage you must keep your eyes open and your ears attentive. You have allowed this person into a small portion of your life, not your whole life. They don't deserve that much of you yet. If your interaction develops into a healthy, authentic Christian fellowship, then this fellowship will grow. Over time this growth will automatically lead the relationship into a healthy, authentic Christian friendship.
