I Pronounce You, "Man and Wife."

By A. Lin. Thomas

Have you ever attended a wedding, watched the beautiful bride walk down the aisle, seen the tears flow from the groom's face, then hear the officiant pronounce the newly married couple as "man and wife?"

What? Where did they get this "man and wife" thing from? I thought it was, I pronounce you as "husband and wife."

That's completely different than the former title. "Husband (head) and wife (help-mate) is how God assigned the couple. The "man and wife" title denotes dysfunction. If she is assigned as his wife (helper), shouldn't he also be set in his proper place as her husband (head)? So, who changed this? It wasn't God. It was people.

The next time you attend a wedding ceremony, listen. And when it's time for you to attend your own wedding ceremony, just make sure the officiant understands how to properly present you as "husband and wife,” before God and all of your witnesses. You don’t want to come off your honeymoon and cross the threshold of your home and new life, a dysfunctional couple. God forbid! Let your union represent what it is supposed to represent, oneness in the relational community between God, the husband, and the wife.
