Serve While You Wait On God©

By A. Lin. Thomas

Although the world is currently in a season of lack, it is still vitally important that we as the Body of Christ, continue to give. Our supplies may be little, but our giving spirit is still useful. I have come to realize that it’s good to be a blessing, serving others while you wait on God for your promises and restoration.

I know that giving in a season where you feel you like you don’t even have enough for your family, seems pretty ridiculous, but the scriptures states in 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 (NIV), “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever. Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”

I whole-heartedly agree! I am a witness that giving, even sacrificially, is the key to overcoming your season of lack. I can’t explain how God is able to provide enough for us to give, when it seems like we don’t have enough! But somehow, in His amazing grace, He provides for us to do so!

I know firsthand, that when I refresh others, God does refresh me. So, I encourage you to give refreshment to as many people as you can in your season of lack. It doesn’t always have to be money; it could be a meal, a hug, a smile and even encouragement. Just give refreshment to someone who needs it, then watch God refresh you!

Prayer:

Father, please open my eyes to see your provision in my hands, in whatever form it may be. I want to be a blessing to others, just as you are blessing me. Help me not to allow the opportunity to help someone pass me by. Instead, show me daily where my gifts can be given to bring divine refreshment to someone else’s life. I thank You for continuing to refresh me in my times of need. You are truly my Jehovah Jireh, the One who provides for, and loves me, indeed. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen!
