The Shift-A New Direction

(Part Seven)

By A. Lin. Thomas

"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

(Jeremiah 29:13, NIV)

In this season of life there is one important thing that you must do to move forward—listen! Getting knocked down by the devil and his cohorts was easy, all you had to do is be alive. Getting up again is a challenge that you will not be able to do in your own strength.

When my trial season was over, I was left to clean up the mess and put my life back together. However, I didn’t know where to begin, because I didn’t cause the destruction. It was done to me and it left me completely broken and dismayed. But one day I looked around my bedroom, the room where I had lost myself and my hope, and asked God, “How do I get up from here?”

From where I was sitting, there was no natural way I saw to move forward. I didn’t have a car, I never even knew that there was a bus in the area, and I had no money, no job, and no direction. But God still had a plan for me. When He told me back in 1991, “You are going to write a book,” I began trying to write a book. After He redirected me, I began writing the book He desired that I should write. When He answered my question about getting up, He responded, “I am giving you a healing ministry and I am making you a public speaker.”

His statement floored me, because I didn’t know how to heal anyone, and I sure didn’t know how to speak publicly. In fact, my mind, my mouth, and my heart could never get on one accord. I could not verbally speak well; I could only articulate myself professionally in writing. But the instant He spoke, “I am giving you a healing ministry and I am making you a public speaker,” something happened in my brain, I felt it. Instantly, my mind, my mouth and my heart came into alignment. I kid you not! I sat in astonishment! But from that moment on I have been given God’s ability to speak, verbally and in writing in a way that I could not before His miraculous touch.

What I want you to understand is that you will only be able to begin anew by asking God what it is that He desires for you to do with the rest of your life. He has your life blueprint in His design and plan for you. I could have never imagined that He would send me to college and have it paid for. I had no idea I was smart enough to go to college. I had enlisted the help of an organization that was helping me to get back into the workforce when they gave me an IQ test. They suggested that I attend college.

God had told me that He wanted me to go to college, but I didn’t believe Him. I didn’t think I was college worthy, and I didn’t have any means to attend or even the resources to get there. But He made it all possible as long as I listened, obeyed His will and took the steps of faith.

Your life has already been purposed for you. You don’t have to figure your way forward; God is your way forward. Just take some time to sit with Him and ask the hard questions. Most people don’t think that God will listen to them, but He absolutely will, because He needs you to listen to Him also. A one-sided conversation is very ineffective in a relationship. You can speak to your Father in prayer, seal your request in the name of Jesus, and receive the manifestation of His power through the Holy Spirit. You will not be disappointed by having heartfelt conversations with your Creator. Who else knows you or your purpose in life best?

I can’t tell you what your new life will be like or look like, but I can tell you that it will be far better than anything you could’ve manifested for yourself. The intimate time with God to explore your life options will usher you into His presence in a deeper more meaningful way. He is waiting to hear from you, all you have to do is trust that He loves you and wants His best for you.

I know it’s hard now, but God knew about this place in time long before you were born, and He has already made provision for your victory. I admit that I am no where near where I hope to be, but I am so far away from where I used to be. So, I know that I have made much progress on the new road to God's purpose for my life, and you can do the same. Every step of your journey with God, is a step in the right direction, the right way, at the right time, for the right purpose and the right outcomes. All you must do is take the first step toward Him in heartfelt conversations.

Prayer:

Father, please open the eyes of my understanding to know Your will for my life. Nothing is the same as it used to be. It has fallen apart, and I don’t know how to recover my life. Please keep me through this season, and when it is over, refresh and restore me to Your newness of life. I give You my permission to change me, and my direction to match Your purpose for my life. I give You my ear, my heart and my life to transform for Your glory. Thank You for taking such amazing care of me and my family through all of this hurt and fear. We are leaning on Your love, grace and mercy. In the name of Jesus, amen.
