Now that you're understanding the #1 thing that was holding you back, it's time to look at ways to make changes. Since my #1 thing was bad eating habits, that's the place where I must make changes.
For years I've addressed my eating habits through a myriad of diets, but the diets never worked because I was inconsistent in adhering to them. I would start, then I would stop. Then I would start again, and then I would stop again. The cycle just kept continuing. But in the past few years I have noticed some things about how my body responses to certain foods or amounts of foods. So, this is where I began making the necessary changes. For me that change is veganism. You didn't expect that did you? Me either, but this particular way of eating just works for me, instead of me working for the eating plan. My body is happy, my energy is happy, and therefore, I am happy.
That self-inventory helped me to see what my #1 issue was, then it helped me to see what the best course of action needed to be for me to overcome the issue. Contrary to popular belief, most overweight people are not unhealthy because of food, they are unhealthy in their souls, which causes them to seek the comfort of food, or any other vice that they can use to escape their internal pain.
When you are ready to tell yourself the truth, "the truth will set you free" (John 8:32, KJV). Your truth is not for everyone to know, at least not now; when you are at a healthier place within yourself, then you will be ready and able to share your victory to help someone else gain the victory. However, in this place and time in your life, your truth must remain private for you to gain mastery over it. Talking too much about your weaknesses with the wrong people, at the wrong time, can sabotage your progress. If you are someone who needs support, seek it, but make sure it is actual support from people who understand how to assist you in overcoming your issue. You don't have to hide; you just have to be cautiously vocal about it for now.
During this initial phase of change you should be busy taking care of you and doing your research. You might even need to pull back from some fellowship just to give yourself room to focus on caring for yourself. Don't let people deter you from loving you first and best, you need the time to "mind your business."
The Scripture reminds us, “Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before,” (1 Thessalonians 4:11, NLT). It's not selfish to focus inwardly, when that focus is for healing and growth. You are in the process of a Divine makeover. Now, take some much-deserved time to enjoy loving you!
