Your Vision Calling
By A. Lin. Thomas
Has God given you a “Vision” to fulfill His purpose? Have you thought about how you will do it? Do you know when you will do it?
In 1999, shortly after I began to recover from my trial season (Job experience), God spoke to me giving me His vision for my life. He had given me directions before, but this directive was different from any other. It was my “Vision Calling.”
He told me what He wanted me to do with my life. He explained to me His purpose for my life, and when He said it, I saw it. It became ingrained in my very being. I had no idea how I was going to accomplish it; I didn’t know all the details as I stepped out by faith, but I knew that I was supposed to do it. The how, when, and where were mysteries to me, He had only revealed the who and the what.
In recent years I have come to value the “Vision” because it has set the course for my life. I am not wondering through life trying to figure out where I fit in. I know where I am needed in God’s kingdom work. I have also noticed that the right people are just showing up in my life to assist me. And I am also assisting them in their calling. The partnerships in our lives are so vitally important because they are sent to help us complete our assignments. Our mates will be a part of that partnership. And we will be a part of theirs to assist them in their calling. If we are partnered in God’s will, our callings should align together as one.
I admit that I don’t always get everything right according to God’s will, but if I get out of step, He always guides me back on to the right path. The “Vision” God gives us is personal and unique. Your vision and my vision may have the same or similar purpose but be uniquely designed for our personalities, gifts, talents, and God’s timing.
A few months ago, I created a vision book, it is a pictorial interpretation of how I see my calling and the desires of my heart. I had done a vision board before, but it lacked the scope of creative freedom I needed to define how I see my purpose and my life. In the beginning I struggled with my purpose and my desires, but I realized that one does not negate the other, so I filled up my vision book with a multitude of pictures and slogans to express how I see the details of my life; which includes my calling and my marriage.
For years, I didn’t understand the necessity for a vision board, but the more I walk with God, the more I dream and see bigger. My vision book is only an interpretation of my inner desires, those that are God given, and those that I hope for. It was a joyful project, and it is exciting to dream bigger than I can see with the naked eye.
Spiritually speaking, your vision board or book, is your visual future. Everything you sense in your spirit that God is calling you to do, put it on your board, everything you think you would like to do, put it on your board. There is no way to dream bigger than God’s ability to get you there, wherever your there is.
In the beginning it won’t feel authentic, and you may struggle just trying to be honest with your own desires. I had to get over feeling like I needed to deserve what I desired. But the more I trusted in God’s love for me, the easier it was for me to just visually ask God for what I needed, wanted, or was purposed to do or have. God started me on this great journey when He decided to use ordinary me to do extraordinary things for Him. I don’t always know how to comprehend it all, but I can tell you that trusting and believing God is easier to do, when you realize that God is trusting and believing in you. He wouldn’t give us an assignment if He didn’t think we could handle it or accomplish it, with His help.
If we go to the book of Luke, chapter 1, we will see an amazing story of a young girl who was called to bring forth the Messiah, Jesus. But she was a virgin and had never been with a man. She wasn’t married yet, only betroth. But after she yielded to the impossibility of accomplishing the calling in her own strength, the Angel of the Lord, reminded her, “For with God nothing shall be impossible” Luke 1:37 (KJV).
There is a saying, “If God called you to do it, He will equip you to do it.”
God gave me my “Vision” now it’s up to me to create it; one dream, one step, and one day-at-a-time, under the supervision of His leading. And you can do the same thing, just dream big trusting that God will get you to the fulfillment of His purpose, which is your calling.
